Falls are a common concern with aging, but evidence-based exercise programs can improve balance, strength and flexibility.
ECU Health Wellness Centers will offer three opportunities during Falls Prevention Awareness Week 2026.
Fall Risk Assessments – The exercise team will offer free fall risk assessments to community members. Participants will receive an evaluation of their fall risk along with exercises designed to improve strength, balance and coordination to help prevent injuries. Assessments are available on a floating basis and are open to the public.
Movement Workshops – Participants will learn practical techniques for safely getting down to and up from the floor with confidence. Expert instruction will focus on improving mobility, maintaining independence and reducing the risk of injury. Space is limited, and registration is required. The program is open to members and registered guests only.
Tai Chi – Learn how Tai Chi can improve balance, coordination and overall stability through gentle, mindful movement. Participants will build strength and body awareness while gaining confidence for daily activities. Space is limited, and registration is required. The program is open to members and registered guests only.
