Behavioral Health Programs
ECU Health Behavioral Health provides outpatient behavioral health services and programs in multiple locations in our region. We offer individual, group and/or family sessions designed and recommended to meet your particular needs. We also offer an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at ECU Health Multispecialty Clinic – Tarboro (252-641-8246) as well as Structured Outpatient Programs at ECU Health Bertie Hospital in Windsor (252-794-6637) and ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton (252-482-6347).
ECU Health Behavioral Health provides care for depression and anxiety at selected clinics where both behavioral health and physical health care is provided by physicians, therapists and psychiatric consultants.
Animal-assisted therapy at ECU Health is used to enhance and complement the benefits of traditional therapy. Animals such as dogs and cats are incorporated into your treatment plan — a technique that has shown positive outcomes and improved emotional well-being in people who live with a variety of behavioral health conditions.
Recreational Therapy Internships
ECU Health Medical Center offers recreational therapy (RT) and recreational therapy assistant (RTA) internships in the Behavioral Health and Rehabilitation service areas. During the 14-week program, interns function as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team, while assisting in the development of quality programming to include assessment, documentation, planning, implementation and evaluation. RT interns are required to complete 560 hours, and RTA interns are required to complete 380 hours.
