Greenville, N.C. – ECU Health Medical Center Cardiovascular Pulmonary Rehabilitation (CVPR) has received re-certification through the American Association of Cardiovascular Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), a recognition of ECU Health Medical Center’s commitment to improving quality of life for patients through adherence to high standards of care.
To earn the certification, ECU Health Medical Center CVPR applied through a process that required extensive documentation of program practices which were reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee. Certification was awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors.
“Our program meets strict national standards for quality, safety and clinical excellence as proven through our recertification,” said Kim Becton, cardiopulmonary nurse, ECU Health Medical Center.

“Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to providing evidence-based care for patients with chronic respiratory disease, and the AACVPR certification reinforces our commitment to improving patient outcomes, enhancing quality of life and delivering comprehensive, patient-centered pulmonary rehabilitation services. Above all, it illustrates our goal to establish lasting trust within our community between pulmonologists and patients.”
Pulmonary rehabilitation combines medical care and counseling across its multidisciplinary team to improve patients’ breathing, increase endurance and regain independence in their day to day lives. Facets of rehabilitation include individualized exercise prescriptions and training, lifestyle education, and clinical support. Patients who take part in Pulmonary Rehab see a 58% risk reduction of having a future pulmonary episode. Patients also see improved quality of life and can remain active in their local communities.
“This certification reflects the high-quality care our CVPR team delivers each and every day,” said Rob Zerniak, program manager, CVPR, ECU Health Medical Center. “Empowering patients with the education, resources and support they need to take control of their health is a critical part of improving their quality of life. We are proud to provide exceptional care close to home for the communities we serve and honored to have our team’s commitment to excellence nationally recognized by AACVPR.”
