Ensuring your safety and security while here.

For the health and safety of our most vulnerable patients, guidelines are in place to protect your child, our patient. When arriving at the ECU Health Maynard Children’s Hospital entrance, you will check-in at Reception Reef to obtain visitor clearance, using your valid photo ID. Visitor clearance and visible visitor identification are required throughout your child’s stay with every entry into the building.

Visiting Guidelines

All parents and visitors entering the Maynard Children’s Hospital are required to obtain visitor clearance, using your valid photo ID. Visitor identification must remain plainly visible at all times.

General visiting hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Children under the age of 18 (including patient siblings) who are visiting a patient must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Parents or legal guardians are welcome anytime and are encouraged to stay overnight. In some units, overnight sleeping accommodations may be available for only one parent at a time.

Family members and visitors should:

  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer whenever entering and leaving the patient’s room.
  • Stay home if sick, not feeling well, or have signs of an infection or respiratory illness.
  • Follow all isolation precautions as instructed by your nurse.
  • COVID-19 requirements: Visitation changes may apply for Maynard Children’s Hospital to ensure the safety of our patients. Please click here for current visitation guidelines.

Security

Our hospital is secure within the larger ECU Health Medical Center complex, and is monitored with closed-circuit cameras inside and outside. Security officers are on-site at all times and safety technology is utilized to ensure child safety. A safety escort when leaving the building is available if needed to ensure a safe campus for families, visitors and care team members. To request a safety escort, call 252-847-8568 (police non-emergency number).

Safety

Cribs will be provided for our youngest patients under three years of age. We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics ABC advice that all infants (less than one year of age) should sleep Alone (in a separate space), on their Backs, and in a Crib with nothing else (no blankets, stuffed animals, toys or pillows).

For the health and safety of patients with allergies, only mylar balloons are allowed. Latex (plastic or rubber) balloons are not permitted.

When leaving the room your child will be accompanied by a parent or team member at all times. Please speak with your nurse prior to your child leaving their room.

Tobacco-Free Campus

To protect the health of all patients, visitors and team members, ECU Health Medical Center facilities and campuses are smoke- and tobacco-free, to include smoking, chewing and vaping.
