Designed to be truly family friendly, our state-of-the-art children’s hospital is staffed and equipped to handle the needs of any child, from the tiniest premature infant to the sick or injured high school student.

At ECU Health Maynard Children’s Hospital, we want to ensure that your stay is exceptional both through the quality of care delivered to your child and also the experiences during your stay. From our sea-themed ambulance to reduce fear, to our amazing Child Life Specialists, to the security and comforts of home, we are here to support your family during your healing journey.

Child Life Specialists

Child life leverages all sorts of distractions and pain-relieving activities during your child's stay. One of our favorite activities is our weekly therapy dog visit.

Virtual reality is an excellent tool used by our team to reduce fear and decrease the use of sedation during procedures.

Diversion rooms throughout our hospital provide distraction during procedures for children of all ages.

Special activities such as our annual therapy horse visits will keep your child smiling and help to reduce fear of the hospital setting during your child's stay.

Child Life specialists help children and families cope with the challenges of hospitalization, illness and disability. As an integral part of your child’s health care team, working alongside the medical care from clinicians, they focus on the mental, emotional and social needs of patients. They can explain procedures in understandable terms and help prepare children for those procedures so they know what to expect. They recognize individuality in patients and use a range of developmentally appropriate activities to help children and families cope.

Children’s Transport Team

Highly skilled Children's Transport nurses will transport your child to our facility providing ICU level care throughout the transport.

An aquatic themed ambulance with child friendly distraction items are leveraged to reduce your child's fear during their trip.

Our team travels by both ground and air to any hospital within our region to bring your child safely to the Children's Hospital for the care needed.

A dedicated children’s hospital transport team is available 24/7 and provides helicopter or ambulance transportation services for infants and children across eastern North Carolina. Our intensive-care trained nurses are skilled at providing the specialty care needed from the onset of transport to arrival at Maynard Children’s Hospital. EastCare and the Maynard Children’s Hospital partner to staff the Children’s Transport Team, which transports more than 1,700 children each year to Maynard Children’s Hospital in order to receive specialty care in the neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, general pediatrics or our immunosuppressed specialty unit.

The safety and security of our patients and families are top priority at Maynard Children’s Hospital. Our hospital is secured with restricted entry into the facility, closed-circuit camera monitoring, and security officers on site at all times.

Ronald McDonald House

Our Ronald McDonald House inside Maynard Children's Hospital provides the comforts of home without ever having to leave the building. One of only a few in the country, this provides a safe space for family respite and for children to experience something outside of their room environment.

Warm meals, showers, laundry, and relaxation areas are all contained within the in-hospital house.

The house is also patient and sibling friendly to provide distractions from the hospital environment.

In-hospital overnight accommodations are also available based on your child's condition, in addition to the main Ronald McDonald House lodging area.

The Ronald McDonald House of Eastern North Carolina operates two houses in Greenville to offer support to families in times of need. Located inside Maynard Children’s Hospital, one house is just steps away from the pediatric units. The house on Moye Boulevard offers families all the comforts of home, while being in close proximity to your child in the hospital. Accommodations are available to families with children being treated here, whether it’s for a long-term stay or a day treatment. We strive to provide a sense of family and home to everyone we serve.
